Mark Lesinski has been named to take over as the new Managing Director of Magnox South, which is currently defuelling and decommissioning five nuclear power station sites in the south and west of the UK on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).
Mark moved to the UK from America early in 2005 to take up a senior position at the Hinkley Point A Decommissioning Site in Somerset. He became Site Director there in October 2005 and in recent months has been the Chief Nuclear Operating Officer for Magnox South.
He has more than 30 year’s experience in the nuclear industry at numerous sites throughout the USA where he held a number of senior appointments at both commercial and government facilities. Listing safety and efficiency as his driving goals, Mark has a wide range of experience in operations, major plant retrofits and nuclear decommissioning projects, where he developed a reputation for leadership, innovation and safe delivery.
Mark, whose principal hobby is competing in “ironman” triathlon events, is employed by EnergySolutions, a Utah-based full-service nuclear fuel cycle company. Through the acquisition of Reactor Sites Management Company, EnergySolutions holds the contracts and licences to operate and decommission 10 nuclear sites in the UK on behalf of the NDA.
He said: “I am looking forward to this new challenge and leading Magnox South – and its outstanding workforce – in safely and efficiently decommissioning and cleaning up the five sites.”
Mark, who is due to take up his new position at the end of July, replaces Ken Powers who is returning to the USA as Chief Operating Officer, EnergySolutions Commercial Services.
